Pretty Fans Baby Blanket



Work up a pretty baby blanket using fans and V-sts for beauty and texture. With instructions you can make this blanket wider and longer if desired.  Or else make a lap-ghan.  Worked with two strands of yarn held together.

Materials:
4 Skeins or approx (28 ozs) sports weight 3-ply Red Heart Soft Baby yarn
Crochet hook size G  (4.25 mm)


Finished Size: 36” L x 30” W
Gauge: 2 rows = 1”

Skill Level: Intermediate

Special Stitches:
V St: (dc, ch 2, dc) in indicated st.

Fan: (5 dc) in indicated st.

Blanket:

Row 1) Ch a multiple of 3 plus 2, or ch 116 for size given above; V st in 6th ch from hook (first 5 chs skipped count as first dc) see special sts;  * sk next 2 ch, V st in next ch; rep from * across, sk next ch, dc in last ch: 37 V sts/2 end dc.

Row 2) Ch 3, turn work (counts as first dc), (2 dc) in first st (counts as first half fan), sc in next V st sp; * fan in next V st sp see special sts; sc in next V st sp; rep from * across, (3 dc) in last dc (counts as half fan): 18 fans/2 half fans.  Mark this row as the RS of work.

Row 3) Ch 3, turn work, V st in next sc;  * V st in center dc of next fan (3rd dc), V st in next sc; rep from * across, dc in last dc of half fan: 37 V sts/2 end dc.

Rows 4-69) Rep rows 2-3.  Or continue working rows 2-3 until desired length is achieved.  (Do not end off).

Edging:

Rnd 1) Working around blanket; ch 3, turn work; (6 dc) in first st, sc in next V st sp;  (fan in next V st sp, sc in next V st sp) across top, (7 dc) in last dc, working side of blanket, sc over dc post of next half fan, fan over next dc post on next row, (sk next row, sc over dc post on next row, sk next row, fan over dc post on next row) across side of blanket, sc over next dc post of half fan, working across the bottom of blanket, (7 dc) in first ch of foundation ch (beg ch) across from first dc worked on row 1, sk next ch, sc in next ch across from V st worked in row 1, (sk next 2 ch, fan in next ch across from V st worked on row 1, sk next 2 ch, sc in next ch across from V st worked on row 1) across bottom of blanket, (7 dc) in last ch across from dc worked on row 1, working up the opposite side of blanket, sc over dc post on row 1, (sk next row, fan over dc post on next row, sk next row, sc over dc post on next row) across side; join with a sl st to first dc. 

Rnd 2) Sl st in next dc of corner fan; ch 1, sc in same st, sk next dc, (7 dc) in next dc, sk next dc, sc in next dc;  (7 dc) in each sc, sc in center dc of each fan (3rd dc) around blanket working corner stitches as follows: sk next dc, sc in next dc, sk next dc, (7 dc) in next dc, sk next dc, sc in next dc; join with a sl st to first dc of corner fan.  Fasten off; secure ends.
